, — The U.S. Embassy in Cairo hosted “Pop-Up USA” in Mansoura, the capital of Dakhalia Governorate in Egypt’s Nile Delta, as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The day’s activities included the opening of an American Corner at the Misr Public Library of Mansoura by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman, in the presence of Dakhalia Governor Tarek Marzouk and Ambassador Reda El-Taify, Director of the Misr Public Libraries Fund.

The new American Corner will provide free, in-person English-language courses, as well as training in technology and other skills relevant to the job market. It will also offer access to more than 600 books and a range of online resources that can be borrowed through the Misr Public Library.
The “Pop-Up USA” program also featured a Delta-wide football tournament for boys aged 12 and 13, with teams representing 26 sports clubs. A street festival offered carnival games, information booths and an “Ask a Diplomat Anything” session, giving local residents an opportunity to engage directly with U.S. diplomats.

The celebrations concluded with a concert featuring American music, with performances by American singer Samantha Takes, Egyptian singer and producer Ahmed El-Haggar, and the Cairo Big Band Society.
During his visit to Mansoura, Chargé d’Affaires Silverman also toured the historic Dar Ibn Luqman, where French King Louis IX was imprisoned during the Middle Ages following his failed invasion of Egypt.
“Pop-Up USA in the Delta further strengthens the long-term U.S.-Egypt partnership by making a commitment to engaging the youth of this dynamic region,” Silverman said. “The American Corner will be a permanent feature of the great public library downtown, overlooking the Nile River.”

He added that Mansoura is widely known as Egypt’s medical capital because of its large number of medical specialists and healthcare facilities.
“We at the U.S. Embassy also hope that, in the future, Mansoura will be known for its specialists in understanding America,” Silverman said.
The “Pop-Up USA” initiative reflects the U.S. Embassy’s efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties between the United States and Egypt, while creating opportunities for young Egyptians to develop language, technology and professional skills and engage with American culture.
