Strategic collaboration aims to accelerate EV charging infrastructure and sustainable electric mobility across Egypt
Cairo, Egypt – Raya Smart Buildings, a subsidiary of Raya Holding for Financial Investments, hosted a high-level strategic session with global renewable energy technology leader Sungrow, reinforcing the partnership behind Electra, one of Egypt’s fastest-growing and most advanced EV charging networks.
The meeting brought together Thompson Meng, Group Vice President of Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd. and President of the OSKA Center & Middle East & Africa Region, Ahmed Khalil, Group CEO of Raya Holding for Financial Investments, and Ahmed Ibrahim, CEO of Raya Smart Buildings.
The visit reflects the continued strengthening of the partnership between the two companies and reaffirms their shared commitment to accelerating electric mobility in Egypt through world-class charging infrastructure and innovative energy solutions.
Electra combines global technology with local expertise
Electra, the EV charging brand developed and operated by Raya Smart Buildings, is the result of a long-term strategic collaboration with Sungrow. By combining Sungrow’s globally recognized charging technologies with Raya’s deep understanding of Egypt’s infrastructure, business environment, and customer ecosystem, the partnership is helping shape the future of EV charging in Egypt.
During the session, both companies emphasized that their relationship extends well beyond a traditional supplier-customer model. Instead, it represents a long-term strategic alliance built on shared values of innovation, sustainability, and the belief that Egypt’s transition to electric mobility requires charging infrastructure that is fast, reliable, and scalable.
180kW ultra-fast charging stations set a new benchmark
With Electra now operating across New Alamein City, including some of Egypt’s first 180kW ultra-fast EV charging stations, while continuing to expand throughout Cairo and key intercity highways, the discussions focused on the next stage of growth.
A key priority was addressing one of the country’s most significant challenges: limitations within the national electricity grid, which continue to restrict the deployment of high-speed charging infrastructure.
To overcome these barriers, Raya Smart Buildings and Sungrow agreed on a joint roadmap centered on developing innovative products and advanced technologies capable of mitigating grid constraints. These solutions are designed to expand access to high-performance charging across a broader range of locations and support the continued growth of Egypt’s EV ecosystem.
The companies believe these innovations will reinforce Electra’s position not only as Egypt’s current benchmark for EV charging, but also as the brand shaping the future of the sector.
Strategic priorities driving the partnership
The two companies identified several strategic pillars that will guide the next phase of collaboration:
- Building a long-term, infrastructure-driven EV ecosystem that supports sustainable market growth.
- Maintaining technology leadership through Sungrow’s isolated air-cooling ultra-fast DC charging technology, delivering charging capacities of up to 180kW, the highest currently available in Egypt.
- Positioning Electra as a category-defining brand by combining international technology, localized service capabilities, 24/7 technical support, and intelligent energy management.
- Developing innovative solutions that address electricity grid limitations and enable deployment in new locations previously constrained by infrastructure challenges.
- Sustaining market leadership through continuous innovation and ongoing investment in next-generation EV charging technologies.
Ahmed Ibrahim: Building world-class infrastructure for Egypt’s electric future
Ahmed Ibrahim, CEO of Raya Smart Buildings, said the partnership with Sungrow represents far more than a commercial agreement.
He noted that both organizations share a common vision of building world-class infrastructure capable of supporting Egypt’s transition toward electric mobility.
According to Ibrahim, Electra embodies this vision through continuous innovation, a commitment to delivering high-quality charging solutions, and an ambition to make reliable EV charging accessible wherever it is needed. He added that the latest strategic discussions confirmed strong alignment between both companies regarding future expansion plans.
Thompson Meng: Innovation should make clean energy more accessible
Thompson Meng, Group Vice President of Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd. and President of the OSKA Center & Middle East & Africa Region, described the partnership with Raya Smart Buildings as one built on shared ambition and long-term commitment.
He said both companies are united by the belief that innovation should deliver meaningful impact by making clean, fast, and reliable energy accessible to more people and in more locations.
Meng added that while Electra has already achieved significant milestones, both partners remain focused on developing new technologies that continue to raise the standard of EV charging in Egypt and across the wider Middle East and Africa region.
