Vodafone Egypt and Ericsson have announced the commercial deployment of Ericsson’s latest high-capacity, AI-powered RAN Processor 6672, marking another step in the modernization of Vodafone Egypt’s radio access network (RAN) and its transition toward AI-native network operations.
The deployment, part of Ericsson’s RAN Compute portfolio, enables artificial intelligence to run directly at the radio site, allowing Vodafone Egypt’s mobile network to respond more effectively to changing traffic and network conditions while increasing processing capacity and reducing energy consumption.
Egypt is among the leading markets to commercially adopt the RAN Processor 6672 following the portfolio’s recent commercial launch in Japan. The deployment reflects Vodafone Egypt’s strategy of strengthening network capabilities ahead of growing demand and preparing its infrastructure for future connectivity requirements.
Vodafone Egypt Brings AI Directly to Radio Sites
The deployment of Ericsson RAN Processor 6672 is designed to bring AI capabilities closer to where network activity takes place: the radio site itself.
Built to support 5G Advanced and AI workloads, the processor provides Vodafone Egypt with the computing capacity required to run AI applications directly at radio sites rather than relying solely on centralized AI infrastructure.
Mobile network conditions can change continuously as people move, gather in different locations and increase their use of mobile services throughout the day. By processing AI workloads closer to the radio site, the network can respond to these changes as they occur, rather than depending exclusively on network settings that require periodic manual adjustments.
Up to Four Times Higher Processing Capacity
According to Ericsson, the RAN Processor 6672 provides up to four times higher processor capacity efficiency while reducing energy consumption by more than 50% compared with the previous generation of Ericsson basebands.
The technology also enables Vodafone Egypt to simplify its radio infrastructure by replacing three basebands with a single RAN processor. This streamlined configuration can help reduce radio-site complexity while supporting lower energy consumption.
For Vodafone Egypt, the increased processing capability is also intended to improve investment efficiency by enabling the operator to extract greater performance from existing network assets, including spectrum and radio sites.
The additional capacity can be directed toward locations where customers are using mobile services most intensively, supporting network performance and the user experience without requiring a proportional increase in energy consumption.

Vodafone Egypt’s deployment of Ericsson’s AI-powered RAN technology represents part of its broader effort to build a future-ready mobile network capable of adapting to changing traffic patterns and evolving connectivity requirements.
Catalin Buliga, Technology Director at Vodafone Egypt, said the company is investing in a future-ready network and highlighted the efficiency gains in processing power and energy consumption enabled by Ericsson’s RAN Processor 6672.
He also noted that the technology allows AI to run directly at the radio site, supporting Vodafone Egypt’s efforts to enhance the customer experience.
