Ambassador Dan Munyuza, Ambassador of the
Republic of Rwanda to Egypt, affirmed that Rwanda has successfully consolidated national unity, achieved security and stability, and built an advanced development model. He noted that Rwandans today live in peace and harmony under the leadership of President Paul Kagame, guided by the values of national unity, accountable leadership, and the resilience of the Rwandan people

The ambassador made these remarks during the Embassy of Rwanda’s celebration in Cairo marking the 32nd anniversary of Liberation Day, attended by senior government officials, diplomats, ambassadors, and representatives of international organizations.
Munyuza said that since the end of the liberation struggle, Rwanda has transformed into a stable and secure nation looking confidently toward the future while continuing to achieve remarkable progress in development. Over the past three decades, he said, the country has succeeded in building strong institutions and making significant achievements in development, governance, and stability.
Addressing regional security issues, the ambassador stated that Rwanda continues to face, from its perspective, threats to its security, stability, and national unity originating from eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) operate. He described the group as a terrorist organization that includes individuals linked to the perpetrators of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
He added that, according to the Rwandan government’s position, the FDLR continues to launch attacks against Rwanda from bases inside the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Kigali also accuses the group of helping establish militias targeting Tutsi communities in eastern DRC and of promoting genocidal ideology and hate speech.
The ambassador further stated that the FDLR is fighting alongside the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is receiving weapons, supplies, and financial support. He stressed that sanctions against Rwanda would not resolve the crisis, arguing that the real solution lies in addressing its root causes, particularly by dismantling and disarming the FDLR and allied militias, and eliminating hate speech and genocidal ideology.
Munyuza reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region and to engaging in political dialogue aimed at addressing the underlying causes of the conflict. He emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through cooperation, mutual respect, and ensuring the security and dignity of all peoples in the region without discrimination.
On bilateral relations, the ambassador praised the strong ties between Egypt and Rwanda, noting that the two countries continue to strengthen cooperation across various sectors based on a shared vision for promoting security, stability, and prosperity across Africa.
He highlighted President Paul Kagame’s visit to Cairo in September 2025 as a significant milestone in bilateral relations, during which several agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed in areas including investment promotion, water resources management, reciprocal land allocation, housing, and urban development, in addition to existing cooperation agreements. He added that bilateral cooperation has continued through the exchange of high-level visits.
The ambassador also invited attendees to visit Rwanda and explore its opportunities in investment, tourism, and innovation. He pointed to the country’s world-renowned attractions, including Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas, and Akagera National Park, which offers an authentic African safari experience and is home to the “Big Five” wildlife species.
He noted that the Rwandan community in Egypt serves as an important bridge for strengthening friendship between the two countries. He also said this year’s celebration was particularly special, as it marked the first time since assuming his post in Cairo that a cultural troupe from Rwanda had traveled to Egypt to participate in the event.
According to the ambassador, the performances reflected the values of heroism, unity, and solidarity that characterize the Rwandan people while showcasing the richness of Rwanda’s cultural heritage. He stressed that sharing national traditions through such events helps foster closer ties between peoples.
Concluding his remarks, Munyuza invited guests to enjoy the evening’s cultural performances and traditional dances presented by the Rwandan troupe, saying the celebration reflects the deep friendship between the Rwandan and Egyptian peoples and Rwanda’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership and cooperation with Egypt across all fields.
